Jr./Sr. High School Band/Choir

High School Band

Description

High School Band is comprised of students grades 9-12. Juniors and Seniors receive a weighted grade. High School Band provides, through performance, continued instruction in the following areas: tone production, instrument technique and music reading skills.  It is a performance oriented class, and students will be exposed to a wide variety of musical styles. High School Band begins the fall working as the Marching Indians, entailing working on a show that incorporates music, props, and movement. They meet every school day during 8th hour and most Sunday nights from 7:00-9:00 P.M. during marching season. The Marching Indians go to competitions, including Music on the Meramec and Ste. Genevieve Marching Festival, and wins trophies for the program. The Marching Indians also performs at the St. Vincent Homecoming Parade, PHS Homecoming Parade, Altenburg Fair Parade, Veterans Day Parade and all St. Vincent home football games. The High School Band after the fall performs in three concerts for the school. The High School Band also performs in the Perryville Concert Festival, St. Dominic High School Concert, and District Music Festival in the spring. All High School Band students are given the option to audition for the All District Band in the fall and to have a solo and/or ensemble at the District Music Festival for the spring.

Eighth Grade Band

Description

Eighth Grade Band is designed to build on the foundation laid in the Beginning, Sixth and Seventh Grade Band and continues instruction in the following areas: tone production, instrumental technique and music reading skills. Eighth Grade Band students work out of and finish the Essential Elements 2000 Book 2. The Eighth Grade Band students also work on music literature to prepare them for High School Band. The Eighth Grade Band performs in three concerts for the school. The Eighth Grade Band also performs with the Seventh Grade Band at Bishop Duburg. The Eighth Grade Band students are given the option to audition for the All District Junior High Band in the fall and to have a solo and/or ensemble at the Valle Festival for the spring.

Choir

Description

SV High School Choir meets on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 a.m.  This is a pass/fail class taken for ½ credit for the year.  It is open to singers in grades 9-12. The choir performs in four school concerts per year and other contests  and auditions as they are scheduled.

Missouri Legislature passed that private/parochial schools may now participate in the A+ Scholarship Program.  A student that meets the criteria may have their college tuition paid for toward a junior college or technical/trade school.
